The authority, under the Revenue Department in the Ministry of Finance, has observed that the said power bank by Xiaomi was attracting 18% GST rate before and after 1st January 2019. Thus, there had been no change in the price of the product.

“We do not find the presence case to be a case of profiteering. The scope of this proceeding is limited to the issue of profiteering and not to the issue of classification,” NAA said in its order dated February 10.

The complaint was filed by a consumer community platform LocalCircles which alleged that the Chinese company had not reduced the price of the product after the reduction of GST rate from 28% to 18% ordered by the government from January 1, 2019.
